English for Business Communication

What is the goal of this class?
This class will help you improve your ability to use spoken language in business communications. You will explore business topics while focusing on English listening comprehension and oral communication skills, listen to current news stories and speeches by business leaders, and learn to make effective presentations on business topics. The teaching methods that your teacher uses will be interactive and communicative, and you will have many chances to develop teamwork skills by working with other participants.

What will you be graded on?
In your English for Business Communication class, your grade will be based on these things:
  • Quizzes and daily assignments          30% of your grade
  • Written assignments                             20% of your grade
  • Final examination                                   20% of your grade
  • Presentation(s)                                        30% of your grade

What do the letter grades mean?
Here is an explanation of our grading scale. It is used in all of UCI Continuing Education's English programs.
You must earn an average of 70% or higher to pass the class.

Passing Grades

99-100% = A+
93-98% = A
90-92% = A-
88-89% = B+
83-87% = B
80-82% = B-
78-79% = C+
73-77% = C
70-72% = C-

Non-Passing Grades

68-69% = D+
63-68% = D
60-62% = D-
0-59% = F
